Title: Public Mountain Trout Waters
Abstract: The NC Wildlife Resources Commission developed the WRC Public Mountain Trout Waters (PMTW) digital data to enhance planning and management of trout waters. The GIS data set depicts the trout regulations in effect on trout waters (streams and impoundments) managed under the PMTW program as listed in the 2017-2018 North Carolina Inland Fishing, Hunting & Trapping Regulations Digest (Effective August 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018). Boundaries are approximate and should not be used for regulatory purposes. These maps are provided as a guide to trout waters and users should refer to the current Regulations Digest to confirm regulations in effect. Additionally, a significant amount of trout fishing opportunities in western North Carolina are located on private property. These landowners have generously allowed for public access for fishing. Please respect their property. Your cooperation is needed to protect fishing opportunities for future generations. When anglers encounter “posted against trespass” signs along these designated sections on private lands, they should respect the property owner’s rights and choose another location along that stream to fish.
